The Lake Chaparral Residents Association (LCRA) is a non-profit organization that governs the activity and membership of Lake Chaparral, a 32-acre man-made lake surrounded by a 22-acre park located within the community of Lake Chaparral in Calgary, Alberta.
Summary
We are seeking an Operations Manager to join our team at the LCRA. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the daily operations of our facility and amenities, ensuring they are well-maintained and effectively managed to enhance resident experience.
Responsibilities
The Operations Manager is responsible for the effective leadership, planning, and execution of all operational, maintenance, and environmental functions of the Lake Chaparral Residents Association (LCRA). This role ensures the safe, clean, and sustainable operation of the community's facilities, amenities, park grounds, and natural assets.
The Operations Manager directly manages maintenance and landscaping teams - including a level of supervisory staff - oversees contractors and vendors, manages budgets, and provides strategic recommendations to the General Manager on environmental stewardship and facility improvement. This position balances hands-on operational involvement with administrative leadership, ensuring both day-to-day needs and long-term objectives are achieved.
Duties include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Leadership & Administration
Supervise, schedule, and develop Operations supervisors and staff, including seasonal hires.
Provide effective leadership, staff training, coaching, and performance management as required.
Oversee contractors and vendors, ensuring quality and compliance with LCRA standards.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and schedules using payroll and any operational software.
Provide monthly/quarterly reporting on departmental activities to the General Manager.
Assist the General Manager with development of department-specific Standard Operating Procedures.
Participate in On-Call Leadership rotations as required.
Facility & Grounds Operations
Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and presentation of all LCRA amenities, including buildings, courts, beach, playgrounds, cookshacks, pathways, and park spaces.
Oversee garbage, recycling, and disposal services, managing contracts and usage.
Coordinate and perform snow clearing and ice treatment operations.
Monitor and support lake operations, including water quality, aquatic safety, skating surfaces, and watercraft/equipment rental services.
Landscape & Environmental Stewardship
Develop seasonal landscaping and park environment plans with realistic timelines and deliverables.
Manage and maintain gardens, turf, trees, and natural areas, including pruning, mowing, planting, fertilizing, and hardscape care.
Oversee seasonal displays and any
Monitor and respond to issues affecting environmental health, including lake health, plant disease, and insect/animal infestations.
Provide recommendations to the General Manager on environmental initiatives, shoreline management, and long-term sustainability strategies.
Event & Community Support
Occasionally provide operational assistance for community events, rentals, and programs, including setup, takedown, and onsite support.
Communicate professionally with members and guests, delivering exceptional customer service.
Educate members on LCRA rules and promote respectful use of facilities.
Financial & Strategic Management
Assist with preparation of annual operating budgets for maintenance and landscaping.
Monitor and manage departmental expenses to remain within approved budgets.
Research and apply for grants and external funding opportunities in conjunction with the GM.
Identify and present opportunities for landscape and facility improvements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with the Alberta Health & Safety and all LCRA procedures/policies.
Provide staff training and foster a proactive culture of workplace safety.
Conduct inspections and mitigate hazards promptly.

Qualifications
Proven experience in facility operations management and/or landscaping.
3-5 years management experience with strong leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of budget management and financial reporting.
Strong computer use skills, including typing and Microsoft suite.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
Familiarity with non-profit organizations is an asset.
