SmartICE is looking for an Operations Lead: Arviat Production to join our Operations Team!
Operation Leads at SmartICE are fully trained to oversee our on-ice monitoring program in Northern Communities, while overseeing a dedicated piece of the Operations Program.
This role will contribute to the set up and implementation of the future Arviat Production Centre, where they will deliver SmartICE's Employment Readiness; Tech Development Program to local youth. Operations leads work to ensure the efficient production of SmartBuoys while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and operational excellence.
Who we are:
SmartICE is an award-winning technological innovation for the North. SmartICE offers a suite of climate change adaptation tools that integrate Indigenous and local knowledge of ice with advanced data acquisition, remote monitoring and satellite mapping for ice travel safety. Our community-based services provide invaluable, data-supported insights into ice thickness and local ice travel conditions, in near real-time.
What you will do:
Oversee the assembly, testing, and quality control of SmartICE technology
Work with the St.John's tech shop to co-develop and maintain production schedules to ensure timely delivery of equipment.
Manage (with support) logistics, inventory, and procurement of raw materials and tools.
Ensure compliance with workplace safety protocols and labor regulations.
Recruit, train, and mentor local production employees, ensuring youth gain transferable skills.
Working with the Northern Production Operations Lead to continuously improve SmartICE's Employment Readiness and Technology Development Program
Support Northern Production Trainees, particularly youth not in education, employment, or training (NEET)
Champion SmartICE's social enterprise mission, ensuring employment opportunities align with Inuit societal values.
Strengthen relationships with community stakeholders to ensure SmartICE creates lasting social and economic impact.
What you bring:
Strong verbal and written communication for effective engagement with community operators, management, and stakeholders.
Ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including community operators, organizations, and government entities.
Proficiency in training and mentoring individuals on technical equipment, operational procedures, and safety policies.
Ability to assess trainees' progress and adjust training methods to ensure understanding and competence.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks, including managing multiple community engagement activities and deadlines simultaneously.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot operational issues, equipment concerns, and community-related challenges.
Strong cultural awareness and the ability to work effectively with diverse Indigenous communities and groups.
The details:
Hours: 28 hours/ week
Term Contract: 1 Year with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
