As an Operations Engineer, you\'ll play a pivotal role in overseeing daily operations, with a key focus on the year-round maintenance of roads and sidewalks. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the enhancement and upkeep of our city\'s infrastructure.Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies for asphalt and concrete surfaces, traffic signs, and pavement markings.
  • Provide guidance and support to City staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, industry best standards, and efficient task execution.
  • Collaborate closely with other divisions, departments, and agencies to coordinate road maintenance activities.
  • Prepare technical reports and correspondence, including tender documents with specifications, conditions of the contract, and engineering drawings.
  • Administer the tender process, ensure compliance with the Public Tendering Act, and review bids for errors and omissions.
  • Review and interpret drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Develop operational reports and procedures including recommendations and follow-up evaluations.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates and feasibility studies.
  • Perform technical review of development applications and municipal construction projects. Review and interpret various engineering documents and studies including traffic plans, storm drainage, geotechnical reports, detailed construction plans, subsurface investigations, testing reports, computer analysis, certification inspections, design calculations, and as built packages.
  • Supervise and lead a team responsible for road and sidewalk maintenance.
  • Respond to and resolve inquiries/complaints from Councillors, consultants, contractors, and the public about existing/future infrastructure and property concerns. Effectively use conflict management when necessary to resolve issues and promote positive outcomes.
  • Coordinate with the City\'s Engineering Department to help develop new construction specifications.

Knowledge of municipal snow clearing, traffic signs, and pavement markings is advantageous; supervisory experience is considered an asset. Familiarity with road construction and maintenance practices, materials, methods, and techniques is highly advantageous. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in preparing concise and effective reports and correspondence. Additionally, they must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the public, contractors, and consultants. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and strong computer skills are essential requirements for this position.Hours of WorkMonday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.This position is at Grade 6 of the Management Pay Scale with a range of $108,065 - $139,439 per annum.We wish to express our appreciation to all applicants for their interest and effort in applying for this position.
