Reporting to the Director of Operational Excellence, the role holder leads and coaches a team of Process Specialists who own and execute operational processes for journals. The Team Leader is accountable for the successful delivery and continuous improvement of these processes to support colleagues and Editors, demonstrating efficiency savings for Researcher Services.

The role holder will:
  • Proactively lead activity within the team to deliver process improvements and operational efficiencies using Lean Six Sigma and Agile approach.
  • Co-ordinate multiple process activities, tracking and reporting on process delivery and process improvement activity.
  • Collaborate effectively with business stakeholders to build understanding and engagement with the work of the Operational Excellence team and to work closely to overcome any challenges and resistance to the new ways of working
  • Manage a centralised view of process activity for the team including process improvement activity, achievement against targets, and risk management
  • Proactively manage the progress of process activity within the team, removing team obstacles and initiating corrective action, coaching and correcting Process Specialists to clear blocks to progress.
  • Build and maintain a Kaizen culture in the team providing on-going coaching of process improvement and agile skills
  • Accountable for the smooth running of day to day operations and for building and maintaining a culture of high standards of practice and acting as a role model exemplar of this.
  • Act as a link between the team and the business to ensure that process delivery standards and good practice are adhered to and that process improvement progress is clearly communicated to stakeholders
  • Support the Operational Excellence Director and work closely with the other Operational Excellence Team Leader and Data Analyst to drive consistency and coherence and to provide relevant support where required.
  • Deliver effective change management through active engagement with the business and use of change management techniques
  • Performance manage, coach and motivate the team
