Job Description


Your Opportunity:As an ORT (Operating Room Technician) for Unit 210 Surgical Suite in the Orthopedic Surgery Centre (OSC) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital you will be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care for hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty patients. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Operating Room Technician (ORT) will be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with CLPNA and Standards of Practice and Competencies for the Perioperative LPN. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in both the scrub and circulating roles as an integral part of their surgical team. The ORT will also be expected to work in the Pre-Op area, providing safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite and promotes their professional role, evaluating their own educational requirements and clinical practice. The ORT will work within their full scope of practice on a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse will practice using evidence based measures and outcomes, they will be a patient advocate and provide a link patient care units and the Operating Room.Description:As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Must have completed the Peri-Operative course or have the equivalent of 3 years\' Operating Room experience. Successful completion of an approved Practical Nursing educational program (diploma or certificate in practical nursing). Experience in an acute care Surgical Suite with Arthroplasty Hip, Knee and Shoulder surgeries. Pre-Op experience is required. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized and rapid moving environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Demonstrates advanced problem solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position. Incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
