Position Summary
NurseAmerica is seeking a
compassionate and skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
in Mississauga, ON to join a leading healthcare facility in
Watertown, New York
. The OR RN will play a critical role in providing perioperative care throughout the surgical process--preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative.
This position requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Review surgical schedules, patient assessments, and preoperative documentation.
Prepare and maintain the operating room, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and sterile.
Function as
circulating or scrub nurse
as assigned.
Monitor patient vital signs, hemodynamics, and anesthesia status during surgery.
Anticipate surgical team needs and ensure proper instrument and implant setup.
Maintain sterile technique and enforce infection control standards.
Assist with patient positioning, draping, and safety protocols.
Count sponges, sharps, and instruments accurately and document appropriately.
Manage and label surgical specimens per protocol.
Collaborate with anesthesia, PACU, sterile processing, and surgical teams to ensure smooth workflow.
Document all perioperative care accurately in the electronic medical record.
Participate in post-operative handoffs to the PACU and contribute to surgical safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Current, active
New York State Registered Nurse (RN)
license.
Graduate of an
accredited School of Nursing
.
BLS (Basic Life Support)
certification required.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
certification preferred or required per facility policy.
CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room)
certification preferred.
Minimum
2 years of recent OR nursing experience
in an acute care hospital setting.
Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical procedures, and patient safety protocols.
Excellent communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
