Our Team

The Operating Engineer is integral for employee safety and Vale\xe2\x80\x99s long-term operating strategy. Members of this team will operate the first-class utilities plant in our Sudbury Operations. Team members are also involved in the development of long-term and short-term maintenance initiatives, practices and procedures.

Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Operating Engineers to join our Maintenance Department in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

Operating Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation of boilers, cooling towers, chillers, reciprocating compressors, glycol cooling systems and associated auxiliary equipment. Your experience and skills will contribute to scheduled or emergency repairs, and preventative maintenance work to be done. Additionally, in this position, you will:

• Complete written pre-operation checks on all equipment and provide an end of shift report of work completed.
• Participate fully in the Vale Production System (VPS).
• Teamwork will be a key requirement of the role along with the ability to work on one\xe2\x80\x99s own initiatives when required.
• Align with work safety policies and safety regulations.

• Trade Certification: The successful candidate will have Operating Engineer Certification. A minimum 3rd Class Certification will be considered.
• Experience: Industrial work experience with demonstrated safe work record.

Skills:

• Strong diagnostic skills and judgment.
• Able to take action and/or make decisions affecting security/well-being of others, I.e., alerting others to unsafe conditions.
• Must be able to pass the internal operator training requirements.
