Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publishing company, is looking to recruit a Portfolio Manager to manage the editorial and commercial development of its portfolio of Open Access academic and professional journals in the behavioral sciences.

We are looking for a candidate with sound and relevant publishing experience, ideally within the field of scholarly and professional journals management and with strong experience of Open Access publishing.

This is an exciting and rewarding role that would suit a creative, tenacious, and self-starting individual with strong relationship-management and organisational skills.

What you'll be doing:

  • Creating and delivering plans to grow, develop and maximise the profitability of Open Access journals in Behavioral Sciences
  • Managing a journals portfolio to an agreed level of revenue and profitability under the direction of the Global Head of Portfolio, exceeding/meeting targets and objectives
  • Pro-actively managing the article pipeline to deliver against agreed targets
  • Developing new Open Access publications and services based on strong market research and best-practice approaches
  • Developing and sharing best practice around successful Open Access publishing within the team
  • Fostering in-depth and long-term relationships with current and potential publishing partners
  • Proactively supporting the commissioning of content, building networks of contacts, and working with the wider Editorial team to build and deliver on commissioning plans to drive articles, special issues and commissioned content to your journals
  • Maintaining a strong external focus e.g., attending conferences, editorial board meetings, creating relevant networks to increase subject and customer knowledge and understanding
  • Building, maintaining, and sharing thorough knowledge of market need and competitor activity to inform decisions on new journals and existing journal development
Qualifications

What we are looking for:
  • Experience of managing and developing Open Access journals
  • Strong subject-matter knowledge and proven experience in developing journals in the social sciences
  • Experience of working with internal departments, publishing partners and Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors and Section Editors to effectively manage copy-flow
  • Strong team-working skills, ability to collaborate, work with others, share knowledge and best-practice to drive value
  • Proven experience of interpreting and applying insight from data on submissions, accepts, rejects and other pipeline and financial data
  • Resilience, self-reliance, and resourcefulness
  • Analytical thinking and logical response under pressure
  • Solution-finding and strong decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills, oral, presentation and written
  • Willingness and motivated to travel to and participate in external events and networks
