JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Control, the Officer, External Financial Reporting and Control is accountable for providing assistance to the External Financial Reporting team in producing complete and accurate quarterly, annual and other reports in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and supporting the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) framework for the Canada Post Group of Companies to ensure controls are designed and operating in a manner that provides reasonable assurance regarding the reliability of financial reporting and the preparation and disclosure of financial statements for external purposes. The Officer will assist in the development and implementation financial processes, controls, reports, analyses and/or policies relating to the functional unit and support changes to IFRS. As well, the officer will liaise with other Finance and functional groups, external auditors and subsidiaries and prepares sensitive analyses and journal entries supporting the Corporate Accounting function.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Officer, External Financial Reporting and Control.

  • Assists in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements, quarterly financial statements and other reports in accordance with IFRS, for submission to the Manager, External Financial Reporting. Supports the year-end audit and quarterly review engagements for the Corporation
  • Prepares analyses and journal entries on sensitive matters managed by Corporate Accounting, included but not limited to preparation of legal, risk management, grievance and severance and pay equity accruals
  • Develops and publishes disclosure instructions, forms and schedules within the Group of Companies that support all components of external financial reporting.
  • Works closely with internal and external stakeholders including Corporate Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Government Affairs, Corporate Secretariat, Communications, Graphics, Internal Audit, External Auditors, Subsidiaries and others on related aspects.
  • Supports research and assessment of the impact of new and amended IFRS accounting policies, procurement and revenue contracts on the consolidated financial statements of the Corporation by working with corporate business units, auditors and subsidiaries.
  • Provides support pertaining to the financial and accounting policies, procedures, standards and their application for publication and use in order to balance risk, materiality and need for timely and accurate financial management information.
  • Assesses the impact of IFRS accounting policies on the Corporation\'s internal control framework, including the design and documentation of new policies and procedures.
  • Supports required changes to the corporate chart of accounts, related corporate accounting coding structures, financial statement presentations, reporting programs and systems to support IFRS, external reporting and internal management information needs impacted by these changes.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field (e.g., commerce, finance, economics, accounting, business administration) OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training
Experience
  • 1 to 3 years\' experience in a finance or accounting environment
  • 1 to 3 years\' experience in analyzing and reporting of financial information
Other Candidate Requirements
  • CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) Professional designation or CPA student
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong communication, analytical, and customer service skills
  • Excellent ability to adapt to changing environment and willingness to learn
  • Experience with External Auditors and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) considered an asset
