Hiring Unit:
Student Housing & Hospitality Services

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, performs various accounting functions and secretarial duties. Verifies, analyses and records accounting transactions using automated financial systems. Investigates and follows-up on discrepancies or other accounting and administrative matters as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Receives and sends, sorts, verifies, processes and prepares various accounting documents such as purchase orders, invoices, check requisitions, receivables, etc. Assigns transactions to correct accounts and sub-accounts. Ensures that documents are accurate and have been approved by the relevant authority. Performs calculations and makes corrections where necessary.
  • Types various documents such as correspondence, reports, statistical tables, administrative forms and lists. Formats according to specifications using standard computer applications.
  • Ensures that all accounting documents conform to University standards with regard to required authorizations, accuracy of calculations, completeness of supporting documentation.
  • Collects cash received in areas of the unit. Verifies deposits.
  • Communicates with suppliers, clients, or any other persons in order to give or obtain information related to area of activities.
  • Carries out routine administrative tasks.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Must be client-focused and service-oriented with a proven ability to interact with people at all levels and deal effectively and diplomatically in delicate situations. Demonstrated ability to transmit and receive information accurately. Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet regular deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Attention to detail. Ability to take minutes. At ease working in a PC environment using specialized databases, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email, and the Internet. English and French, spoken and written.

Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.

Hourly Salary:

(AMUSE A) $18.50

Estimated Number of Work Hours per Week:

15 to 20 (Part time)
