The main purpose of the Occupational Therapy Assistant is to provide direct and indirect support to the students and therapists of the Occupational Therapy services.
Key Responsibilities
Indirect client support
Assuming transitions with students between the classroom and the therapy room - main responsibility. Transitions are often a challenge for children and the most important asset is the presence of a calm and caring adult
Preparing and tidying treatment spaces, including preparation of materials required for therapeutic activities
Maintenance and cleaning of therapy material and equipment
Management of specialized equipment and technical aids (registration of loans, recovery, cleaning, inventory)
Assuming the distribution and collection of forms and documents relevant to the therapeutic process
Preparing, printing, and laminating materials
Direct client support
Implementing treatment plan (sensory-motor activities) provided by the occupational therapist with students from Nursery to Grade 6
Assist the occupational therapist during group interventions
Assist the occupational therapist in communicating with teachers and parents for scheduling purposes
Supervision and Training
Training offered by Annemarie Couture, consultant, and the occupational therapy team
Supervision offered by Annemarie Couture, Clinical Director, and consultant
Participation in occupational therapy sessions with the OT
+ Will allow the development of relationships with the students
+ Allows for opportunities to observe the OT and learn from modeling
+ Learn techniques and apply them in the presence of the Occupational Therapists
+ Participate in OT clinical meetings
