Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly, Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (flexible hours available)

Shift Work Required: No

Range of Pay: $2,926.70 to $3,444.70 bi-weekly (subject to review)
(Training Opportunity range of pay is $2,665.60 to $3,136.70 bi-weekly. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.)

Pioneer Manor serves residents 18 years of age and older who have long-term health care needs and who are no longer able to manage in independent living situations. As the largest facility of its kind in North Eastern Ontario, Pioneer Manor is home to 433 residents who are provided with 24 hours of supervision.

Main Function: Provide overall occupational therapy services and care for the residents of Pioneer Manor.

Duties: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Therapeutic Services.

1. Develop and administer a quality occupational therapy program.

2. Screen and assess the physical status, functional status, mobility, seating, and cognitive status of all newly admitted residents and assist in developing individualized care plans. Implement, monitor and evaluate same.

3. Communicate with the Health Care team regarding client status changes, needs and treatments.

4. Maintain information on residents\xe2\x80\x99 medical charts regarding services provided and update care plans accordingly.

5. Complete required assessments and code in accordance with the RAI-MDS schedule.

6. Participate in resident and inter-disciplinary care conferences as required.

7. Provide instruction/information to staff, students, residents, and families for (re)positioning, pressure sores, cognition/perceptual evaluation, seating and mobility equipment, activities of daily living, therapeutic programming, lifting and transferring, and orthotic devices.

8. Work pro-actively with the health care team to maintain or improve functional levels of residents.

9. Ensures that Occupational Therapy services meet the needs of the residents and maintain established standards of infection control and long-term care.

10. Provide direction/guidance to support staff; assist in monitoring and evaluating performance; participate in recruitment, job performance reviews and discipline as required.

11. Plan and conduct in-services for staff on topics related to Occupational Therapy services and staff and resident wellness promotion as scheduled.

12. Maintain occupational therapy statistical records, reports and/or other administrative data.

13. Monitor and evaluate occupational therapy services using the quality improvement model.

14. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein, and of applicable facility manuals.

15. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education and Training:

University Degree in Occupational Therapy from a University with Canadian accreditation.

Certificate of Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.

Registered Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Authorizer for seating and mobility.

Membership in the Canadian and Provincial Occupational Therapy Association is an asset.

Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience.

Experience in the field of Geriatrics, including work with persons with dementia, considered an asset.

Knowledge of:

Disease process and symptom management, theory, research, clinical decision-making skills and critical thinking skills within the specialty.

Best practices within areas of responsibility.

Best practices in falls and cognitive assessments and interventions.

Code of Ethics and Standards for the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.

Applicable legislation and related regulations.

Horizontal linkages to other relevant governmental levels and services as well as the private sector.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act and in particular its relation to long-term care facilities.

Demonstrate a proven ability to work with microcomputer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g. file maintenance, work processing, spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval, etc.).

Mental and physical fitness to perform essential job functions.

Language:

Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.

French verbal skills highly desirable; written skills an asset.
