Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation and Grey Bruce District Stroke Centre, the occupational therapist is responsible for providing services to referred stroke clients in a variety of settings, with a focus on cognition, perception, community integration and attaining optimal recovery. As well, the occupational therapist will ensure optimal independence and safety in the home and return to or development of new activities and roles that are important to the client. They will also provide client-specific consultation and education/training/ in-services related to stroke rehabilitation for service providers, caregivers and families. The occupational therapist is a member of a collaborative interprofessional team delivering an innovative rehabilitation service to help stroke survivors and their caregivers reach their optimal level of recovery in their own community.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
Required
Successful completion of a University Degree in Occupational Therapy
Current registration in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
Clinical experience and expertise working with individuals with stroke and demonstrated knowledge of current stroke rehabilitation best practices.
Sound understanding of the role of a variety of rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation
Experience working with the stroke population in the last 3 years
Experience and expertise working in community
Experience in working in an interprofessional team/ Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an inter-professional collaborative environment.
Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches.
Willingness to flex time and responsibilities to meet patient needs
Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
Appreciation of resource utilization and comfortable working in a virtual environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving and innovation skills.
Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
A valid Ontario driver's license and a reliable insured vehicle.
Willing to travel throughout Grey Bruce
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
