Reporting to the Program Manager, the Occupational Therapist (OT) on the North Peel Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) plays a crucial role in supporting clients in achieving their recovery goals by enhancing functional abilities, fostering independence, and improving quality of life. The OT provides assessments, interventions, and rehabilitation plans tailored to client needs in areas such as self-care, vocational activities, life skills, and community integration. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the OT collaborates with psychiatrists, nurses, addiction specialists, peer support workers, vocational specialists, and other allied professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct
comprehensive occupational therapy assessments
(cognitive, functional, sensory, life skills, and vocational).
Develop and implement
individualized intervention plans
to support clients in areas such as daily living skills, community mobility, self-management, and recovery goals.
Provide
rehabilitation services
including skills training, coping strategies, and adaptation planning (assistive devices, environmental modifications, and accessibility supports).
Support clients in
transition planning
for housing, employment, education, and community participation.
Facilitate
group interventions
(e.g., life skills groups, wellness and recovery programs, vocational readiness).
Collaborate with ACTT colleagues to ensure holistic, coordinated, and recovery-oriented service delivery.
Advocate for clients' rights to housing, community services, and healthcare while addressing systemic barriers.
Provide
clinical documentation
(assessments, progress notes, discharge planning) in compliance with professional and organizational standards.
Participate in
team meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives
.
Maintain professional practice standards and meet requirements of the
College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO)
.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Certification as an OT with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
3+ year's experience with mental health and/or addiction support
Demonstrated competency in behavioral assessments
Individual and group counselling skills
Excellent skills in assessments and crisis intervention
Knowledge of ACTT standards
Experience working with people who experience severe and persistent mental illness
Knowledge and commitment to the values of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery-oriented practices
Excellent risk management and crisis intervention
Knowledge of psychiatric symptomology and medication, as well as suicide assessment and intervention
Expertise in collaboration with the community while supporting the mental health population
Knowledge of MS Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
A vehicle, a valid G driver's license, and adequate insurance coverage
Reporting Function:
The Occupational Therapist will report directly to the ACTT Program Manager. They will work with both internal and external partners and will interact with all levels within the organization.
They will not have any Supervisory responsibility.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Hours are typically Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm but may vary depending on client needs. Rotating evening shift and on call as required.
Majority of work will be completed independently in the client's home/apartment
Average amount of physical effort is required.
Able to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
Vehicle travel to sites for visits/walk-throughs and open doors as required
