Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Allied Health Program Manager, the OT II Clinical Lead Edmonton Zone Seating Service (EZSS) provides clinical leadership and direct services in the area of complex wheelchair seating assessment and prescription for clients in Edmonton Zone Continuing Care. This work is carried out while working directly with a broader multidisciplinary team consisting of Continuing Care and Contracted Service Provider (CSP) OTs, PTs, TAs, private vendors, agencies and government programs. The incumbent acts as role model and demonstrates clinical excellence in practice, strong leadership skills and the ability to engage a dispersed team through solid collaborative and engagement skills, facilitating group processes and acting as a change agent. In addition, the incumbent works collaboratively with, and provides support and coverage for, the dedicated and embedded EZSS Seating Therapists from various programs within Continuing Care. The incumbent supports the professional development needs of staff through identification of required education, coaching, mentoring, and work flow support to meet the standards of service delivery. Administratively, the incumbent demonstrates strong coordination and organizational skills, and a sound understanding of Continuing Care work environments. The incumbent assists with evaluation and coordination of EZSS services and supports program development, risk management, and evidence based practice, demonstrating strong critical thinking in terms of clinical, political, and operational issues using creative problem solving skills to resolve issues that arise.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current membership with ACOT required; membership with SAOT and CAOT an asset. Minimum 3-5 yrs experience with complex seating assessment and prescription in a clinic environment is required, 2-3 yrs experience working in continuing care/community setting required. Complex Wheelchair Seating AADL authorizer status through AADL is required. Knowledge of resources, community agencies/vendors, and Alberta Health Services programs and services available within the Edmonton Zone. Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and leadership skills, as well as excellence in written and verbal communication. Ability to coach others and promote teamwork and partnerships to attain optimal team and client outcomes. Demonstrates creativity, flexibility, and initiative. Displays highly developed organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving ability as it relates to service provision. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP) is required. Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel, required. The successful candidate will work in different settings and environments (community/home environments, travelling in different weather conditions), required to lift & carry supplies and equipment (up to 25-30lbs). Additionally, the candidate must be physically able to assess for client seating needs, requiring awkward positioning, bending, transferring, and lifting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with adult learning process is an asset.
