Your Opportunity:
Come join the dynamic Calgary Rural Rehabilitation team! This temporary part-time 0.4 FTE opportunity will be based out of the High River General Hospital. The Occupational Therapist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team and will primarily support 50 Long Term Care residents. There will be opportunities to pick up additional shifts and support other areas within our rural service area (Acute Care, Home Care). High River is located 25 min South of Calgary city limits. The hospital supports 27 acute care beds, 50 Long term care residents, an emergency department, labor and delivery, 10 day surgery beds, and cancer care. Reporting to the Rural Allied Health Manager (Adults) the Occupational Therapist will work with our existing rehabilitation team to provide integrated rehabilitation services across the continuum of health services. In addition to performing your clinical roles you will be expected to foster effective relationships within the site and across our rehabilitation teams, and at time participate in quality improvement and program development initiatives within the Rural Calgary zone.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

AADL authorizer for small equipment and, level A wheelchair and seating benefits. Previous experience working with Long Term Care Residents. At least 3 years of working experience working at 0.4 or more FTE.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working in a rural area is strongly preferred. BLS-C Healthcare provider certificate (to be obtained within 3 months of starting).
