The Occupational Therapist II will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome and complex behavioral issues. Residents may exhibit challenging, unpredictable responsive behaviors which require enhanced staffing expertise to provide care and oversight. Reporting to the Area Manager Allied Health, the Occupational Therapist II collaborates with the Care Community to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The Occupational Therapist II will be part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with a strong focus on the multi-disciplinary and collaborative process, including and focused on the patient. We have Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Recreation Therapy and Social Work on our Allied Health team working in close collaboration with our nursing teams. This position qualifies for a Recruitment Incentive of $5000.00 for 1 year return for service, $12,000.00 for 2 year return for service, and $25,000.00 for 3 year return for service all pro-rate to FTE and available until March 2024. AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000.

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.
