Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager of Child & Adolescent Addiction & Mental Health & Psychiatry Program (CAAMHPP), Specialized Services, the Occupational Therapist II (OT) provides consultation to professionals and/or assessment of children and adolescents (ages 0-18) and Emerging Adults (16-24) with complex mental health issues and associated developmental, cognitive and behavioural disorders. Service provision can occur across CAAMHPP sites to meet the needs of the client with a home base at the Richmond Road Diagnostic & Treatment Centre. Service is provided in the context of family-centered care and may include liaison/ collaboration with relevant community agencies and/or schools. Responsibilities include participation in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development and program evaluation as required, and other related duties as required. Works with other professionals to contribute to a mental health assessment and to provide clarity regarding a DSM-V diagnosis. Manages the caseload effectively and works collaboratively with the family and with other professionals to formulate assessments, meaningful case plans and facilitate referrals as requested. Collaborate with the family and the Community Service provider to facilitate the most appropriate service plan. Demonstrates the ability to work with minimal supervision. This position is designated to the Community Assessment and Consultation Service (CACS), a service that provides single-discipline and some multi-disciplinary assessments to support CAAMHPP services that do not otherwise have access to the discipline expertise. Although the position is assigned to CACS, it can be reassigned within Specialized Services based on clinical need.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years of recent clinical OT experience with Children and Adolescents (and their families) who have complex Mental. Health issues with associated cognitive, behavioral and developmental concerns. 2 years in recent formal diagnostic assessment and intervention with Children and Adolescents with mental health challenges and physical and/or developmental disabilities. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations from a Family-Centered Care perspective. Demonstrated Experience providing consultation and assessment feedback to professional external to Health and Mental Health. Demonstrated Experience working in multi-disciplinary care teams. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources for clients and families. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
