Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist interested in working with adults living in the community who have complex rehabilitation needs, including post COVID patients. The Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) program is seeking an Occupational Therapist I to provide physical therapy, patient assessment and treatment to community dwelling adults with complex and neurological conditions. This position provides the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team including Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Recreation Therapy, and Social Work and a variety of other disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to maintain adequate clinical records, provide rehabilitation consultation to other staff, as well as mentor and supervise Occupational Therapy students and Therapy Assistants. The successful candidate will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide effective and appropriate patient care and discharge planning. This position supports CRIS services offered at all three locations (Strathcona Community Hospital, Kaye Edmonton Clinic, Mother Rosalie) with most work completed at the Strathcona Community Hospital site.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications: Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Additional Required Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years' experience working with neurological patients and patients with complex rehabilitation needs. Working knowledge of computer applications including word processing, email, internet access and data entry. Must possess strong assessment, communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem solving, planning and organization skills. Must demonstrate a strong patient/family-centered approach to care. Ability to be self-directed and to effectively work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Must possess a sound understanding of the community and the determinants of health. Strong assessment, critical thinking and clinical decision making skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in Connect Care and/or EMR is considered an asset. Experience working in an outpatient clinic. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
