Your Opportunity:

Addiction and Mental Health Services in the South Zone is looking for an Occupational Therapist I (OT) to work with individuals dealing with addiction, mental health and/or concurrent concerns. This position will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, allied professionals and community services to provide services and support to individuals with complex needs and their significant collaterals in various stages of recovery. Areas of service for this position may include education and support to improve daily living skills and/or assistance to make connections with community agencies that can support the client and their occupational success. To be successful, you will practice from a recovery-oriented, strengths-based perspective to enable occupation with clients who are linked with Addiction and Mental Health programming. You have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. As the Occupational Therapist I, you will engage individuals to identify their goals, assess motivation, collaboratively develop a recovery plan, and support the implementation of the individual\'s recovery plan. You will complete sensory and environmental assessments in order to offer recommendations to stakeholders providing support for these individuals. You will be involved in providing training and education for staff and community service providers, as well as being able to provide consultation to others working with this population. This position includes travel within the South Zone. Lethbridge is the largest city in southern Alberta. Located 212 km southeast of Calgary on the Oldman River, Chinook winds keep winter temperatures on the mild side. Lethbridge is a gateway to both the Canadian Badlands and the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client\xc2\xbfs physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Additional Required Qualifications:

Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to use an occupation-based assessment to identify individual strengths and occupational performance issues. Able to conduct sensory and environmental assessments. Experience in an addiction and/or mental health setting with clients who have mental health and/or substance abuse and developmental disabilities issues is an asset. Experience with case management of complex clients.
