Occupational Therapist I

Edmonton, AB, CA, Canada

Job Description

Your Opportunity:
Recovery Alberta Supported Living (formerly AMH Supported Housing) is seeking a skilled and diverse Occupational Therapist for our Enhanced Care Suites (ECS) program located at the Pimatisiwin site. This site is operated by Niginan Housing Ventures and is an Indigenous-governed program. The ECS program is a pilot project that has been in operation for just over a year. It is a 6-bed area at Pimatisiwin that specifically focuses on complex individuals who have been in hospital for extended periods as there is no facility to house them. They are clients who have a tri-morbid presentation with substance use, mental health and physical care needs. The position is both a consultative and case management position, with room for the clinician to develop their own style of providing service. It works closely with an interdisciplinary team from both Recovery Alberta and Niginan. It works closely with agency site managers and staff and requires an ability to collaborate in care planning and service delivery. Our larger team has an experienced group of Occupational Therapists who support each other and there is opportunity for Clinical Supervision within our larger portfolio. Service delivery ranges across the spectrum of OT interventions. These clients require equipment support as well as addiction and mental health interventions. Tasks can include mental health assessments, risk assessments, equipment assistance, functional and cognitive assessments, and providing feedback to the team in case conferences. There is opportunity to partner with other professions to provide group activities as well. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. By applying on this posting, if you are the successful candidate, you agree to and will become an employee of Recovery Alberta.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the clients physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.
