Your Opportunity:
The Community Accessible Rehabilitation (CAR) program is an ambulatory rehabilitation program for adult clients. This Occupational Therapist (OT) will join our dynamic MSK/Upper Extremity (UE) team to support direct patient care in the following areas: complex UE/hand injuries (i.e. tendon reconstructive surgeries), musculoskeletal multi-trauma, rheumatology, and peripheral nerve injuries. The OT will work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team with Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants, Social Work, Psychology, and Recreation Therapy. The OT will also provide consultation and treatment in off-site clinics, such as plastic surgery out-patient clinics. We are looking for an OT with a strong interest and clinical experience in hand therapy and in developing advanced splinting skills for treatment of clients with complex musculoskeletal and upper extremity injuries. We are looking for someone who demonstrates leadership around evidence-based practice initiatives. CAR provides mentorship to support clinicians to develop their skills in new areas of practice. CAR is a multi-site program, and this position is based at the South Calgary Health Centre. The caseload for all positions within CAR may be subject to change based on operational considerations. Please note this position will transfer, along with the CAR Program, to Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) effective January 15, 2026.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the clients physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least 3 years of experience working as an occupational therapist. New graduates with a recent placement in hand therapy may be considered. Demonstrated competency with fabrication of basic hand and wrist splints. Demonstrated working knowledge of post-operative and post-fracture hand therapy treatment protocols. Demonstrated initiative for best practice and client centred care. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer skills are required. Current Basic Life Saving (BLS) certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with clients with MSK injuries/conditions. Previous experience working in an outpatient or ambulatory setting. Certified Hand Therapist designation preferred.
