Your Opportunity:
South Health Campus (SHC) services Calgary and the surrounding rural areas and was designed as a referral centre for Southern Alberta. SHC operational philosophy has been built on Four Pillars: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The Allied Health department at South Health Campus provides services to in-patient units and out-patient service areas. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the Clinical Practice Leader, this full time Occupational Therapist I position is primarily responsible for providing direct patient care within our in-patient team. The caseload for this position may include acute care medical, neuro and surgical areas with potential for coverage as required in critical care (ICU and ED). This position will also provide weekend coverage on a rotational basis. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the clients physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required. Experience in an adult urban acute care medical or surgical unit setting as an Occupational Therapist in the past 2 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience providing Occupational Therapy (OT) support in the ED and/or ICU of an adult urban acute care/hospital setting in the past year. Experience supporting the multidisciplinary team with decision making and capacity issues. Experience in wound care services is an asset.
