Your Opportunity:

South Health Campus (SHC) services Calgary and the surrounding rural areas and was designed as a referral centre for Southern Alberta. SHC operational philosophy has been built on Four Pillars: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The Allied Health Department works collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the South Health Campus. This is a casual /relief Occupational Therapist I position which will cover multiple service areas within the Allied Health Department. The primary caseload for this position is on acute adult inpatient units (medicine, surgical, ICU, ED) with potential for coverage on other areas as required. This position may involve weekend shifts. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. The successful incumbent will be expected to provide 2-3 weeks availability for initial orientation and subsequently be able to commit to a minimum of 1-2 weekday/daytime shifts of ongoing availability, as well as the availability to work over peak times such as summer vacation and other holiday periods. Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client\xc2\xbfs physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Certification is required (Level: Health Provider). Experience in an adult Acute Care setting within the past 2 years. Preferred Qualifications:

One year or more experience in acute medicine or surgery within the past 5 years. Knowledge of community resources and outpatient programs in Calgary Zone. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a patient-centred, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals. Effective self-management skills and demonstrated initiative. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
