Your Opportunity:

The Alberta Children\'s Hospital is a warm & vibrant workplace with team members providing service to children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Allied Health team as an Occupational Therapist I (OT), as part of the site-wide OT team, with a focus on patient & family-centred care. This position provides primary support to ambulatory services at ACH & may be required to support other program components based on identified need & priority across the site, including other ambulatory areas &/or inpatients. Caseload includes assessment and treatment of children and youth (0-18yrs) diagnosed with neurological, oncological, genetic, developmental & somatic conditions. Practice involves engaging with subacute & chronic populations across all occupational domains to support recovery and development of person (physical, visual, cognitive, etc.), environment (parent & community supports), & occupation (ADLs, IADLs, play). The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. Strong experience in splinting, FES, & CIMT is an asset. As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit excellent clinical reasoning & problem-solving skills including analytical thinking & conflict resolution/negotiation; will be organized in managing a large & complex caseload; will demonstrate initiative, adaptability & flexibility to meet varying clinical & operational needs; & will demonstrate effective interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. Supervision of the clinical practice of students & assistants is required. Participation on program/clinic committees is expected. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client\xc2\xbfs physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor\'s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum three (3) years of relevant, related clinical experience. Minimum two (2) years of experience in pediatric rehabilitation. Knowledge, skills and experience in splinting. Knowledge, skills and experience in pediatric feeding & swallowing (including knowledge of instrumental swallowing evaluations). Knowledge and understanding of pediatric development and conditions. Knowledge and experience in neurological conditions, rehabilitative service, and transition support. Knowledge of community resources and programs. Knowledge of tertiary rehabilitation service delivery. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience using Functional Electrical Stimulation. Experience providing Constraint Induced Movement Therapy. BCLS-HCP certification. AADL authorization required for some services.
