The Government of Manitoba is seeking a dedicated Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) to join the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) branch. The OSH branch is responsible for providing strategic leadership, policy development, and oversight of occupational safety and health programs across all departments, ensuring compliance with legislation, and fostering a culture of safety and well-being in the public service.

Must maintain registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba
Qualifications:
Essential:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
Completion of a recognized Occupational Health Nursing Certificate program or Canadian Nursing Association certification in Occupational Health (preferred)
Knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Act, Workers Compensation Board processes and infection control processes
Experience with disability case management, health surveillance programs, medical accommodations and return-to-work planning
Strong clinical assessment, communication, counselling and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
Experience in community health, emergency, ambulatory care, or critical care (desired)
Knowledge of respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and hazardous exposure monitoring (desired).
Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Employee Safety and Injury Prevention, this vital role focuses on promoting and maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of public service employees across the Manitoba public service. The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) delivers a broad range of occupational health services, including conducting pre-placement, periodic, and return-to-work health assessments; supporting workplace injury management and return-to-work planning; and leading prevention-focused programs such as wellness education and chronic illness prevention. The OHN also oversees health surveillance initiatives related to hearing conservation, respiratory protection, communicable disease exposure, and hazardous materials. In collaboration with staff, unions, management, and external partners, the OHN contributes to policy development, ensures compliance with health and safety legislation, and provides health education and counseling. This position plays a key role in fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment through data-informed decision-making, continuous improvement, and the development of effective occupational health policies and procedures.
