Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator



The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Coordinator will play a key role in adapting and applying safety practices that address the unique risks and regulatory requirements within each of our work environments. This position requires flexibility, strong communications skills, and the ability to support teams working in varied and sometimes complex operational settings.

The OHS coordinator supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of workplace health and safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment. This role focuses on promoting a proactive safety culture, coordinating training and orientation programs, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies.

The OHS coordinator influences the organization as a whole - employee well-being, organization compliance and workplace culture

This position will require regular travel (possibly overnight) between various work locations, including farms, processing facilities, marine and production sites. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support operational or training needs. This role involves both office-based administrative tasks and on-site inspections.

Principal Responsibilities

:

Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and programs in accordance with organizational standards and legal requirements. Develop, review and update Safe Work Practices (SWP), Safe Job Procedures (SJP), and Standard Operating procedures (SOP) to ensure they reflect current operations and best practices. Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and workplace audits across diverse operational sites, including agricultural, seafood, lab and food and beverage facilities. Create, coordinate and deliver safety orientations, training programs and ongoing education initiatives to promote awareness and best practices. Investigate workplace incidents, near misses and hazards; prepare reports and follow up on corrective actions. Support the OHS Committee and assist in facilitating meetings, documentation and communication of safety matters. Maintain and track safety records, inspections logs, training certifications, and incident documentation. Liaise with managers to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and internal procedures across all sites. Assist with emergency preparedness planning and participate in drills or response activities as required. Provide guidance and support to management and employees in identifying, reporting, and mitigating workplace hazards. Promote a consistent culture of health and safety awareness across all locations and sites.

Requirements:



Diploma or certification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of provincial and federal occupational health and safety legislation. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in health and safety coordination, preferably in multi-site or multi-industry settings. Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across different operations environments. Experience in agriculture, seafood for food and beverage sectors considered a strong asset. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between locations and worksites as required
