The Canadian Test Centre (CTC) is a Canadian-owned and operated educational assessment service and publisher. Since 1980, CTC has acquired broad experience in publishing, project management, and large-scale management and reporting. CTC has provided educational assessment services at the federal, provincial, and district levels, as well as to colleges in both the public and private sectors. Our newest Canadian curriculum-based online assessment is the fifth edition of the Canadian Achievement Test (CAT5). We are currently collecting student normative data through our national research studies.
Job Details
The CAT5 School Curricular Needs Research Study: "How Useful Teachers Find Student Academic Needs Information" aims to determine how useful Grades 1-8 teachers find a report that lists the top four areas in the curriculum where their students demonstrate the greatest need.
We are seeking a dedicated
Qualified Occasional Teacher
to support our research initiatives. Reporting to the Educational Research Supervisor, the Occasional Teacher will act as the on-site research assistant to support students during the study period. The Occasional Teacher will travel to schools in the
Lakehead District School Board
, during school hours, set up the provided equipment (CTC-owned Chromebooks and/or headphones) for students and administer the online CAT5 Mathematics assessment.
Newly graduated and qualified teachers are welcome to apply - certification is required at the time of application to be considered.
Responsibilities
Set up the devices for each student participating in the research study.
Instruct, monitor, and/or assist students as needed during the online test administration.
Utilize classroom management strategies as needed.
Check, store, and safely transport devices and equipment for each group.
Provide a debriefing to the students after completion.
Troubleshoot and quickly resolve any technical issues on the devices or the application during the administration.
Communicate and report all issues to the Research supervisor.
Track any technical issues and summarize the test day using Google Sheets.
Training is required and will be provided before entering the schools.
Requirements
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent.
Must hold an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
membership
in Good Standing. (A copy of your OCT certificate will be required.)* K-8 teaching experience is an asset.
Experience working with young children in group settings is an asset.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent written and oral communication.
Experience using Google Workspace is preferred.
Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot technical issues, especially on Chromebooks, is an asset.
Experience with and/or knowledge of online assessments is preferred.
Must have access to your own vehicle with proper insurance coverage required for travelling across schools.
A copy of the most recent Vulnerable Sector Check
(within the last 6 months)
will be required at the time of application.
Pay: $294.68/day
Plus mileage reimbursement
Contract (potential for renewal in the spring)
