Obsolescence Engineer

Job Description


An aeronautical company located in Ville St-Laurent is looking for an Obsolescence Engineer who will be responsible for managing and mitigating the risks associated with product obsolescence and parts that are no longer in production for the company.

Responsibilities:
-Conduct regular assessments of components, materials, and technologies used in the company\'s products to identify potential obsolescence risks.
-Monitor industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes that may impact the availability and viability of components and materials.
-Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and product management, to evaluate the impact of obsolescence risks on product design, manufacturing, and supply chain.
-Develop and implement obsolescence management strategies and plans to proactively address potential risks and minimize the impact on product availability and quality.
-In collaboration with platform engineers, identify alternative components, materials, or technologies to replace obsolete or at-risk items and evaluate their suitability for integration into the company\'s products.
-Engage with suppliers and maintain strong relationships to stay informed about their product lifecycles, obsolescence plans, and alternative solutions.
-Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and effective implementation of obsolescence mitigation measures.
-Collaborate with the procurement team to manage component end-of-life (EOL) notifications, negotiate extended supply agreements, or qualify new suppliers as needed.
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date obsolescence-related documentation, including risk assessments, mitigation plans, and tracking of obsolescence-related activities.
-Provide technical expertise and guidance to cross-functional teams on obsolescence-related matters and support decision-making processes.
-Prepare and/or acquire certification and technical data required to support approval of new parts/systems to replace obsolescent ones.
-Manage obsolescence certification projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering, preferably in electrical, electronics, or a related field. A master\'s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in obsolescence management or related roles within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of obsolescence management methodologies, tools, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with component lifecycles, product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, and supply chain management principles.
  • Solid understanding of engineering design principles, manufacturing processes, and quality control standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex technical and business challenges related to obsolescence.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and build relationships with suppliers.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision in documenting obsolescence-related information.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements related to product obsolescence, such as RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals), is desirable.
