The Role: Nutrition & Wellness Worker (Full Time)
The Nutrition & Wellness Worker is responsible for creating meaningful, accessible, and engaging wellness experiences for youth, with a focus on nutrition, life skills development, community connection & recreation, and cultural celebration. This position supports young people in building independence, developing healthy habits, and strengthening life skills through thoughtful programming, consistent engagement, and relationship-building.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Nutrition & Meal Programming
Create and manage a nutritious, cost-effective menu for the program.
Complete grocery shopping for the program.
Order, coordinate, and pick up food from the Food Bank and other partners.
Creatively use available ingredients to prepare nutritious meals for youth.
Maintain, organize, and restock the community pantry and kitchen.
Life Skills & Wellness Programming
Host
one community life-skills cooking session weekly
with the group home youth, focused on cooking skills for individuals on limited incomes.
Develop and deliver a
points-based incentive program
tied to life skills, healthy engagement, and program participation in collaboration with the Manager and the team.
Plan and facilitate
two recreational events per week
for youth in the building.
Plan and host
holiday and cultural celebrations
for the Group Home Building community.
Plan and host
two out of building events per month
for youth.
Create and facilitate
bi-weekly life-skills workshops
focusing on independent living (e.g., budgeting, meal planning, tenant skills).
Plan and coordinate
birthday celebrations
for youth at the group home building
Engage with internal Trellis programming (e.g., Youth Employment, Clinical, Circle Keepers, etc.) to support holistic youth development.
Stay current with Trellis-wide events, opportunities, and programming, and actively engage youth in them.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
Build and maintain relationships with community partners to provide additional programming and supports for youth.
Collaborate with external agencies to bring in relevant workshops, cultural supports, or life-skills opportunities.
Documentation & Administrative Duties
Track, document, and report all events, programming, attendance, and relevant outcomes.
Ensure all activities align with agency practices, safety standards, and licensing requirements.
Complete required paperwork and data entry related to programming and outcomes.
Growth, Development, and Culture
Commit to ongoing learning, development, and alignment with Trellis Values, Guiding Principles, and Practices.
Complete all mandatory training, performance reviews, and check-ins as required.
Foster a culture of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Truth and Reconciliation.
Be open to giving and receiving feedback in a supportive and professional manner.
Contribute to a positive team culture and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Knowledge and Experience Expectations
A diploma or degree in Human Services, Nutrition, Community Development, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience working with youth, food programming, or community development is an asset.
Strong organizational, time management, and creative problem-solving skills.
Comfort with planning group activities, facilitating workshops, and leading youth programming.
Ability to maintain boundaries while building supportive and empathetic relationships.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn database systems.
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C.
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Record Check.
Valid driver's license and ability to transport clients using a personal or agency vehicle (as applicable).
Reporting Relationship:
This position directly reports to a Trellis Program Manager.
