Specific Accountabilities:
Demonstrates correct practices to ensure safe operation of lab equipment, safe environment for hands on practical application of knowledge as a follow up to faculty instruction
Prepares and plans instructional materials, works closely with faculty, and provides technical expertise of a specialized nature to students by demonstrating and explaining previously taught theory to students
Is conversant with each lab requirement(s) and the intended objectives
Promotes, reinforces, tests and evaluates practical lab skills for students
Provides input to the student evaluation process in labs using criteria that is structured
Checks student activity
Other responsibilities as required
About the Position:
This is a temporary part-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Nursing at a rate of $39.19/HR
The Nursing Lab Technologist provides technical and skills-based expertise of a specialized nature using independent judgement to determine services, techniques and methods required to meet student needs. The technologist will collaborate with the faculty / program coordinator to ensure efficient strategies exist related to student's ability to acquire the defined skills.
The technologist works closely with faculty to support curriculum delivery in the programs within the Faculty of Nursing portfolio, including lab learning activities and evaluating practical skills (skill testing) and participating in remedial learning supports for students.
Weekly hours will be set between 3-12 hours based on program needs and candidates availability at point of hire and program based enrolment.
Qualifications:
Must be registered in good standing with College of Nurses of Ontario (Registered Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse with BScN)
Must have at least three years of clinical practice in the nursing role
Previous experience providing instructional support in a postsecondary environment is an asset
Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and evaluation skills required to troubleshoot, problem solve and provide analytical solutions to a wide variety of situations
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to student success and satisfaction
Proven initiative, due diligence, professionalism and strong work ethic that embraces flexibility
