SCOPE
Reporting to the Director, Campus Wellness and Support Services (CWSS) with a clinical reporting to the Manager, Community Health Services, in the Single-Entry Point for mental health. Working with a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent will assess and evaluate student mental health needs and use the stepped-care approach to refer them to the most appropriate service. The incumbent will also provide single session and crisis intervention as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and evaluation of student requests for mental health services and help determine the most appropriate service(s), as defined by department processes, policies and in accordance with provisions of the licensing bodies.
  • Attend daily check-ins and maintain close communication with the single-entry point team, monitor requests for service forms and prioritize students based on processes as defined by department.
  • Conduct single session interventions and follow-up with students as needed.
  • De-escalate and support students in crises as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable about and refer students to Concordia wellness resources and other units, such as the Student Success Centre, BIRKS Student Centre, Sexual Assault Resource Centre, International Student Office.
  • Adhere to the stepped care model of supports in decision-making; implement, analyze, and suggest tools of measurement-based care as per processes; share outcome data with Director of CWSS.
  • Be knowledgeable about community mental health resources, including the CIUSSS networks.
  • Act as a primary resource for health education and in assessing the need for mental health services that may require physician care as per the stepped care model,
  • Maintain client records in accordance with professional licensing guidelines as well as those established through CWSS.
  • Attend trainings and keep abreast of best practice approaches in mental health and well-being.
  • Meet with the Manager, Community Health Services for clinical supervision, and attend health services (nursing) team meetings as needed.
  • Suggest improvements to department processes and perform other duties in support of the operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing and two to four years recognized nursing experience in mental health care.
  • Licensed by the Ordre des Infirmi\xc3\xa8res et Infirmiers du Qu\xc3\xa9bec (OIIQ).
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French.
  • Basic knowledge of Word.
  • Experience responding to diversity in mental health care. Knowledge of social and cultural determinants of mental health.
  • Experience offering culturally appropriate interventions attending to ethnicity, racism and persistent and pervasive inequities.
  • Knowledge of wellness and community based mental health resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively with individuals. Calm, approachable compassionate disposition
  • Ability to work with students in crisis.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work outside of normal operating hours.
  • Knowledge of or previous experience in delivering single session interventions is an asset.
