Nursing is a self-regulated profession governed through the College. A nurse is responsible for practicing in accordance with the standards of the profession, and for keeping current and competent throughout his/her nursing career (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2009).
Qualifications:
-College of Nurses of Ontario registration in the Extended Class (NP-Adult) required
-Baccalaureate in Nursing (BScN) required
-Masters Degree in Nursing (MScN or MN) required
-Member of RNAO with professional liability insurance preferred
-Current ACLS certification required (or required to complete upon 6 months of hire)
- Candidates with in-depth experience in management of Internal Medicine admissions would be preferred
Skill, Ability and Experience:
-Experience - 3-5 years in the hospital setting, with experience in Emergency and Medicine and ICU required
-Advanced clinical judgement and comprehensive skills in triage, assessment, examination and treatment, with the ability to effectively adapt to constantly changing and unpredictable situations required
-Effective interpersonal listening, time management, organizational, teamwork, leadership, problem solving and networking skills required
-Demonstrated ability in program/service development including planning, implementation, evaluation, and promotion required
-Knowledge of Nurse Practitioners\' Standards of Practice as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario required
-Demonstrated knowledge and application of adult education skills preferred
-Creative and innovative in delivery of expert care, with demonstrated skills in project management/change management required
-Ability to work in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision/direction required
Principal Duties:
Bluewater Health is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner interested in working on the Telemetry Unit, within an Internal Medicine environment. The Telemetry Unit is a 24 bed high volume, high turnover Medicine unit with 5 designated stroke beds. Patients are complex, high acuity, with multiple comorbidities.
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner will provide direct patient care, assess new admissions in the Emergency and Telemetry Unit, develop care plans, assist with patient transfers to other units, develop and expedite discharge plans, and liaise with family and other multidisciplinary care providers involved with the patient\'s care. The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner will work semi-independently with the Attending Internist, who is the Most Responsible Physician.
This role will have a matrix reporting relationship, reporting to the Attending Internist and Chief of Internal Medicine for clinically related matters and to the Chief of Staff for Human Resource, Attendance and Performance matters.
1. Function as an acute care nurse practitioner working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals
2. Interview patients, obtain clinical history, medication regimens, and any relevant information
3. Interact with patient\'s family members and relatives
4. Scientifically and accurately interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory blood work and imaging, and seek assistance when necessary
5. Formulate management plan in terms of necessary diagnostic tests to be ordered, and medication regimens according to guidelines and best practices, in collaboration with the Internist Attending
6. Collaborate with internal medicine attendings and efficiently review management plans with them
7. Collaborate with nurses on the unit
8. Able to manage 5-10 patients every day
9. Stay current with medical literature and best practice guidelines pertaining to Internal Medicine
10. Enhanced knowledge in acute internal medicine case mix such as heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, strokes, and variable respiratory conditions
Other duties include:
