Nurse Practitioner (np) – Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (pat) Program

Hamilton, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

Our Vision

Access Therapy is building a psychedelic-assisted therapy program rooted in safety, relational care, and sustainable growth. We're not a "high-volume" clinic--and we're not looking for clinicians who want to sprint. We build slowly and thoughtfully, with the belief that the quality of the container matters as much as the clinical intervention.

For PaT work in particular,

every role on the team must be an exceptional space holder

--from admin to medical leadership and everyone in between. Psychedelic experiences can elicit doubt, fear, and vulnerability. A steady nervous system, calm confidence, and grounded presence from the whole team shapes the client's sense of safety and their ability to engage the work.

About the Role

We're seeking a Nurse Practitioner to support the PaT program through

comprehensive assessment, prescribing (when appropriate), treatment planning collaboration, and on-call medical support during medicine days

.

This is

primarily a remote role

. If you're local to Hamilton and would like to be in-person for parts of the work (team connection, select assessments, program development), we welcome and encourage that--but it's not required.

Important Scope Clarification (Medicine Days)

During PaT dosing/medicine sessions,

the RN (to be hired) is the on-site clinician

who will be with the client, monitoring vitals and supporting physical safety in collaboration with the PaT therapy team. The NP's role is to

assess and prescribe

, and to be

available on-call during medicine days

to support the RN and PaT team in navigating any issues that arise.

Reporting & Collaboration

Works closely with and is accountable to: Medical Director, Clinical Director and Director of Operations, within scope and regulatory requirements.

Contractor Structure & Compensation

This is a contractor/referral relationship that will start slowly as we build out the PaT program and will likely increase in volume over time.

Compensation will be determined in conversation with the successful candidate. We're open to different contractor arrangements and will land on a structure that reflects the actual work involved (assessment and documentation time, prescribing responsibilities, team consultation, and on-call availability on medicine days), while supporting long-term, sustainable practice.

Education & Registration

Master's degree in Advanced Nursing Practice (NP) and successful completion of NP registration exam for stream of practice Registration in good standing with the applicable provincial nursing regulatory body Practices in alignment with legislative requirements and professional standards/guidelines

Relevant Experience

3+ years

experience in psychiatric, mental health, or psychotherapy-adjacent nursing practice (or comparable settings)

PaT-Specific Training (preferred/expected)

Training (or a clear commitment to training) in psychedelic-assisted therapy principles, safety, ethics, and integration practices (e.g., introductory PaT training and MAPS fundamentals).
Support with training offered through discounts towards ATMA CENA training programs.

Knowledge & Competencies

Demonstrated understanding of:

Client-centred, respectful, inclusive relationship-building Cultural safety and cultural humility, including Indigenous health cultural competency Delivering psychedelic-assisted treatment according to acceptable criteria and established protocols Recognizing and responding to adverse drug reactions and suspected overdose (including CPR and engaging emergency services) Responding to medical emergencies beyond adverse drug reactions Harm reduction education (as applicable) Standard First Aid + BLS for healthcare providers Mental Health First Aid Safety/security response to aggressive or violent incidents Appropriate referrals and care coordination Duties under provincial privacy legislation

Access Therapy Fit

You bring:

Strong clinical judgment and calm decision-making under pressure Excellent communication and documentation habits Organization, reliability, attention to detail Collaborative, team-oriented presence

Exceptional space-holding:

self-regulation, co-regulation skills, steady confidence without ego
