The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Ambulatory Care services and Respirology, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will function in an advanced practice role including the role components of clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher. The Nurse Practitioner's (NP) practice is based on in-depth knowledge of nursing and other sciences with emphasis on health assessment, diagnosis, and management of illness. The focus of the NP's practice will be on providing services to manage the health and needs of children and adolescents requiring intervention and follow up. The NP works collaboratively with other health professionals to provide safe, competent, and ethical nursing and inter-professional care. The Nurse Practitioner will work within an approved Collaborative Practice Agreement signed with the Division of Pediatric general medicine.
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will have responsibilities that include:

• Utilizing and demonstrating advanced knowledge and decision-making skills to conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnose and manage the clinical care of children requiring care.

• Phone follow-up and virtual sessions with patients and families.
• In person/virtual clinics focusing on referrals related to infant head shape and size.
• Assisting surgeons in the OR when required.
• Developing, promoting, and maintaining an interdisciplinary collaboration in a team environment.
• Working in partnership with nurses and other disciplines to provide holistic patient/family centered care and advance the practice of pediatric nursing.
• Participating in planning and implementing change related to clinical, educational and research issues.
• Participating in policy and procedure development related to pediatrics.
• Providing leadership and modelling of behavior related to nursing practice issues, through the role components of clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher.
• Promoting communication among nursing and other health disciplines in the care of the patient and family in the IWK Health Centre and in the community.
• Dedication to continuing learning for self and team.

Hours of Work
Typical hours of work are Mon - Fri (0800-1600) with option of substituting regular weekdays with weekend inpatient rounds.
Your Qualifications

• Successful completion of a graduate degree in nursing with a Nurse Practitioner component and the clinical specialty of pediatrics or a recognized equivalent graduate programme.

• Graduate degree or equivalency in Nursing with a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner focus required.
• Licensed or eligible for licensure by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia as a Nurse Practitioner
• Current successful completion of CPR Level C Health Care Provider within the last 12 months required.
• Minimum two (2) years' experience in Pediatric nursing required
• Demonstrates understanding of evidenced based practice and utilization of research in practice

• Demonstrates ability to work and practice autonomously

• Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
• Demonstrates critical thinking skills, including clinical judgment, and strong decision-making ability
• Demonstrates strong organizational, communication and people skills with patients, families, and colleagues

• Demonstrates organizational, conceptual, and leadership skills.

• Demonstrated ability to adapt to constantly changing, unpredictable situations

• Commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement
• Competencies in other languages an asset.
