Job Description

The purpose of this position is to maintain, improve, restore and optimize the health status of clients within the Emergency Care and Ambulatory Care services of Kings County Memorial Hospital.

Duties will include:



perform comprehensive, focused health assessments including a health history and physical examination using a holistic framework and multiple assessment techniques relevant to a client's stage of development, culture and health. Determine the need, order, and interpret the results of relevant screening and diagnostic tests; Analyze assessment data by systematically comparing and contrasting clinical, behavioral and diagnostic data to determine differential and working diagnosis. Determine, communicate and document health findings as well as medical and nursing diagnoses of specific diseases, disorders or health conditions. Select and prescribe drugs and other therapies within scope of practice based on knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics, drug interactions and individual patient characteristics. Perform invasive and non-invasive procedures as required within scope of practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community members to identify patient population health needs and resources, and provide input as requested for community health programs. Discuss with and involve clients in decision making regarding their health, and in taking responsibility for their health. Provide direct guidance and counseling on health promotion and illness prevention strategies in accordance with client health status and needs, participate in the overall evaluation of the practice setting's programs and services Ensure professional standards and clinical competence are reflected in all educational content taught by Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Participate in-patient care performing rounding on patients, completing assessments, developing treatment plans, prescribing required medications, ordering diagnostic testing, and performing clinical interventions as appropriate; Admission, transfer and discharge from inpatient unit. Performing clinical assessments and rechecks within Ambulatory Care Decanting the ED of CTAS level 4 and 5 patients identified as appropriate either in person or virtually. Participate in the overall evaluation of the programs and services Performing other related duties as required. May be required to travel based on operational requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:



must have a Master's Degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or graduation from or completed the requirements to graduate from an approved and recognized All Ages Nurse Practitioner program. Applicants who are currently enrolled in the last year of the NP program and will be eligible for licensure may be considered. Active or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse with the endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of PEI. Extensive experience working in a combination of hospital and community settings. Previous experience in leadership roles would be an asset Successful completion of CPR within the last year is required critical thinking proficiency to assess, analyze, diagnose, select treatment, evaluate, and refer patients with common acute or chronic health conditions, or for health promotion / illness prevention; skilled in independent performance of advanced elective procedures; demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment with excellent collaborative, team building and consultative skills; excellent communication (verbal and written), facilitation and interpersonal skills in dealing with clients, families, community groups, professional colleagues, and referral partners; thorough knowledge and proficiency in medical and nursing physical assessment and treatment methods; demonstrated ability to prepare and present information on health promotion and illness prevention to the community and practice setting staff; strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities; the successful applicant must meet minimal productivity requirement; demonstrated ability to be self-directed; proficiency and experience working in a computerized environment; must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle; the successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:



A certificate for Hospital & Acute care for a Nurse Practitioner or equivalency, is highly recommended additional relevant education and experience would be an asset Must be available to work flexible hours and shifts such as evenings and weekends as required.

Salary Range:

$57.94 - $65.59 per hour
