The Nurse Practitioner will demonstrate a high level of autonomy and expert skill in formulating clinical decisions and appropriately managing a population of patients within the medicine admissions unit (MAU) and the Emergency Department (ED) within a philosophy of patient-centered care. This role will utilize medical directives set out by Osler's ED and abide by the practice standards for a Nurse Practitioner set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario. This position is accountable to the Director, Emergency, and the Corporate Chief, Emergency Medicine.

Accountabilities:



Utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competencies Collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient Providing follow-up/treatment data about the health of the patient in collaboration with the MAU or ED physician Discharge planning Playing a leadership role and performing quality improvement Participating in policy and procedure development activities/programs Acting as resource and providing educational support to patients, families and staff The MAU will be a priority area for the NP, working under the supervision of the ED physician, working within the department inclusive of triage, in a collaborative and partnership model with the ED physician group who are identified as most responsible physicians for all patient populations within the ED


Qualifications



Masters Degree in Nursing / ACNP / Current extended class registration RN (EC) required with CNO Five years nursing experience working in a large community hospital Emergency Department Exemplary nursing clinical skills, knowledge and expertise, especially in patient assessments and discharge planning Demonstrated patient/family teaching and staff education skills Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and organizational abilities Excellent interpersonal skills with all members of the team including physicians, patients and families Evidence of well developed conflict management skills Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with sensitive issues with families and staff Evidence of initiative in ongoing knowledge development and reflective practice Proficiency in computer skills and data management required (e.g. Excel, Word, Access) Fluent in English (comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking) Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration


Additional Information



Hours: Currently Days/Evenings shifts, with the need to flex across all shifts and days of the week to meet the needs of the department (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)


SALARY:

Minimum: $62.16 per hour

Maximum: $77.42 per hour
