The primary focus of the NP\'s role is the management of patients with suspected cancer. The Chest Medicine Clinic provides a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary outpatient environment in which the Nurse Practitioner will triage referrals/ diagnostic notifications, provide direct patient consultation, manage Pleural Effusion clinic patients, perform in clinic ultrasounds/thoracentesis and provide patients and staff with education in the Ambulatory setting. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager for RAH Ambulatory Care, the Alberta Thoracic Oncology Program (ATOP) Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed health care provider who works collaboratively with ATOP physician groups (i.e. thoracic surgery and pulmonary interventional medicine) and the AHS interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and care planning for patients with probable lung cancer who are referred to the ATOP clinic. The ATOP NP has master\'s degree in nursing with a focus on advanced clinical practice and maintains current CRNA registration as NP. The Chest Medicine Clinic provides services in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary outpatient environment in which the Nurse Practitioner will triage referrals and perform direct patient assessment, order diagnostic tests and write prescriptions for patients in the Chest Medicine Clinic. All duties and responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner will follow the guidelines developed by the Coll\xc3\xa8ge of Registered Nurses of Alberta, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, and the practice protocols of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonary Medicine Group. Hours of work for this position are Monday through Friday days from 0800-1600 but may vary with clinic operating hours. The successful candidate will be supported through their orientation by the existing NP who will also be available for ongoing mentorship. This position will be involved in research opportunities within the program as applicable.
