About the Organization:





The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is an Indigenous governed, Indigenous led regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region now covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the northern York region. BANAC works in cooperation with Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous organizations to address community-identified priorities through coordinated planning, implementation and evaluation. BANAC has a mandate to support the continued promotion of Indigenous lifelong learning and community wellness through self-determination and community participation.





BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including Aging Well Senior Supports, Bebminot Family Wellness, the Biinoojinsauk Child Care Centre, Maapii Enjii Zaagi Gaazwad and the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team. Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin offers a wholistic approach to wellness that includes traditional healing practices in primary care, community clinics, addiction and recovery services, counselling programs, midwifery, land-based healing programs, and community health promotion.

About the Role:





This position operates within an Indigenous-led and Indigenous-governed organization that is accountable to the communities it serves. Work is grounded in the principle of Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands, ensuring that all programs and services are developed, delivered, and evaluated under Indigenous governance structures and community direction. In alignment with Indigenous and provincial standards, the organization upholds excellence in care, accountability, and compliance while centering on Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural safety, and self-determination in health and social service deliverables.





All employees are required to participate in organizational Indigenous Cultural Safety training and to engage in ongoing reflexive practices as part of their professional development. This includes a commitment to examining personal and systemic biases, deepening understanding of Indigenous histories and experiences, and ensuring that service delivery aligns with the values of respect, reciprocity, and wholism that guide the organization's work.



The Community-Based Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a primary care provider working within an Indigenous interprofessional health care team to deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe, and wholistic primary care services to registered Indigenous patients.





This role includes care delivery in multiple settings:


BANAC Primary Care Clinics (Barrie, Orillia and Midland) Indigenous Partner Sites (e.g., Friendship Centres, community health centres) Mobile Clinic (operating throughout Simcoe Muskoka) Outreach and Home Visits as appropriate for patient care and in alignment with BANAC policies and procedures




The NP will travel throughout the Simcoe Muskoka region using the mobile clinic and an equipment bag to provide care "where the patient is at." They will work collaboratively with RNs, RPNs, physicians, Traditional Healers and other interprofessional team members to provide care to full scope of practice. While this position is community-based this role does not provide on-call services and does not provide urgent response services. The Community-Based Nurse Practitioner will contribute to service planning and coordination activities in collaboration with the leadership team and interprofessional staff. These efforts will help ensure that health service deliverables and organizational priorities are consistently met across all community-based care settings.




What You Bring:




Member in good standing with CNO as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class [RN(EC)] Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and/or Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and Certificate as a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (required) Master's Degree in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program (preferred) Experience in primary care or community-based settings an asset Experience working with Indigenous patients is an asset Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and protocols and willingness to work in community settings Demonstrated ability to provide trauma-informed, patient-driven care Experience working with EMRs and in electronic office environments Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interprofessional team Valid Class G Ontario Driver's License and reliable vehicle for regional travel Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Information About Working at BANAC Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin:




Work is typically performed in BANAC clinics, offices and / or in community settings. Regular travel to meetings and communities is required; access to a personal vehicle is considered an asset. Regular overtime work may be required to accommodate business needs and BANAC team members enjoy a flexible work schedule. BANAC work site locations are periodically exposed to smoke due to the burning of sacred medicines: tobacco, sweet grass, sage and / or cedar.
