Description:

PLEASE NOTE: The Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP) was certified by the Alberta Labour Relations Board on December 20, 2021, as the bargaining agent for all employees of Alberta Health Services (AHS) who are nurse practitioners performing advanced nursing care or nursing instruction. Reporting to the Corrections Health Services Manager, the Nurse Practitioner\'s role is an important part of our clinical team within the 10 Provincial Corrections sites. Our population presents with dynamic and complex needs for the provision of care within custody and criminal justice system. The primary focus of the NP role is on diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health and preventing illness/injury, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, other therapies, and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments. While working within our Calgary Corrections sites, you will also provide virtual support to our other correctional centres throughout the province.

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level or equivalent. Registration with CRNA as a Nurse Practitioner. Recent clinical experience in acute or primary care settings.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Additional training and other relevant advanced practice skills required (TNCC, suturing, ECG interpretation, diagnostic imaging). Successful candidate must be willing and able to practice within their full scope as an NP in an inter-disciplinary team environment utilizing a harm reduction and trauma informed care approach. Must be able to perform to the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given for those working across the life span and in a primary or acute care setting.
