Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Trauma Services and PCU 44 and the Trauma Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner- Trauma Services will focus on the provision of expert clinical care in managing the health needs of individuals experiencing traumatic injury who present to the Level One Trauma Centre in Southern Alberta - The Foothills Medical Centre. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the NP provides direct patient care using advanced assessment skills, injury and disease pathology knowledge, pharmacology, therapeutic skill, intervention management and referrals. The incumbent is expected to provide leadership and participate in program development and evaluation, research, and clinical teaching activities.

Description:

The role of the Trauma Nurse Practitioner will help provide continuity of care to injured patients and their families across the continuum of health care services. A self-directed Advanced Practice Nurse will provide leadership through comprehensive knowledge of best practices and actively participating in program development. Education for bedside Registered Nurses and rotating medical residents are critical components of this NP role. The Nurse Practitioner - Trauma Services accepts responsibility for their continuing education and competencies through ongoing professional development, research, and quality activities. PLEASE NOTE: The Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP) was certified by the Alberta Labour Relations Board on December 20, 2021, as the bargaining agent for all employees of Alberta Health Services (AHS) who are nurse practitioners performing advanced nursing care or nursing instruction.

Required Qualifications:

Please Completion of a master\'s degree in nursing. Current registration and NP practice permit with the College and Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current CNPS (Canadian Nurse Protective Society) PLP (Professional Liability Protection) registration Current Heart and Stroke Foundation certification in BLS.
Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years recent clinical nursing experience essential. Demonstrated ability to function effectively independently and as an interdisciplinary team member. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members. Demonstrated strong decision-making/problem solving abilities. Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up care in the community. Computer literacy skills (i.e. Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years of recent emergency/critical care clinical nursing experience preferred. Relevant experience in trauma is preferred. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation certification in ACLS preferred. Current Trauma Nursing Core Course certification preferred. Instructor certification preferred. Recent WISE (Workshop in Simulation Education) or equivalent preferred. Relevant experience in trauma is preferred. Computer literacy skills (i.e. Connect Care, NetCare, etc.).
