Your Opportunity:

Rockyview ICU is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner to add to our multidisciplinary team of critical care providers. This role will support the ICU Physician and Nursing team with day-to-day care, planning and interventions. Future development of the NP role will include 24/7 coverage of the ICU and critical care consults on site.

Description:

The Intensive Care Unit Nurse Practitioner (ICU-NP) is an advanced practice nurse who is prepared at the graduate level and functions in a collaborative practice model. The ICU-NP role integrates aspects of nursing and medicine in a multi-professional team setting. The ICU-NP demonstrates comprehensive knowledge in med/surg critical care, using their advanced assessment skills for the diagnosis, testing, consulting, and treatment of these patients. This role includes time for research and education in the clinical area, inclusive of nursing staff, rotating residents, and medical students. The current ICU environment is a hybrid model of coverage with an ICU-NP and a variable number of residents. This role will evolve to include night service coverage in the future. In practice the NP role includes but is not limited to diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health, and preventing illness/injury, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals/medical devices/other therapies, and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments. The NP performs restricted activities within their scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulations and the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Nursing activities performed are determined by legislation, regulation, regulatory body standards and guidelines Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, patient need and competency of the individual NP. PLEASE NOTE: The Alberta Union of Nurse Practitioners (AUNP) was certified by the Alberta Labour Relations Board on December 20, 2021, as the bargaining agent for all employees of Alberta Health Services (AHS) who are nurse practitioners performing advanced nursing care or nursing instruction.

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved NP program at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level or equivalent. Registration with CARNA as a NP. Recent clinical experience in ICU or Critical Care area; and Willingness to complete additional education and/or certifications specific to ICU practice (e.g., ACLS re-certification).

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior ICU clinical background. Minimum 600 clinical hours as a NP. Training and competency to complete diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
