The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

About the Opportunity

The NS Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers within Interprofessional Practice and Learning (IPPL) plays a leadership role within the organization in creating a culture of learning with a focus on transition to specialty practice programs, entry-level transition to practice, interprofessional practice education (IPE) and continuing professional practice development. The Learning Institute promotes accountable professional practice in quality practice environments, facilitates patient and family centered care, fosters collaborative team relationships and supports research and evidence-based practice.

Reporting to the Manager, the Learning Institute, the Nurse Educator is responsible for program and curriculum design: assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating learning and education programs. The Nurse Educator takes a leadership role in facilitating and promoting a culture of excellence in competency-based education to enable successful transition to practice, practice progression, and learner-centred outcomes.

The Nurse Educator, with Nursing Instructors, Clinical Nurse Educators, and Clinical Leaders, plays a significant role in building capacity through competency based educational strategies to support, develop and contribute to the translation of knowledge, skills and abilities while advancing practice. The Nurse Educator has the primary responsibility to design, maintain and deliver educational programming for nursing and interprofessional programs using classroom, simulation, and online/distance learning strategies. The Nurse Educator practices according to the Registered Nurses Act, Nova Scotia College of Nursing, and Standards of Practice of Registered Nurses.

Specific functional areas of responsibility include:

  • Learning & Education Consultation
  • Workforce Planning & Optimization
  • Curriculum Design for Simulation Learning
  • Interprofessional orientation, transition to practice & learner progression
  • Learning & Education Evaluation
This position will support the RN Bridging Re-Entry Program with a particular focus on blended learning.

Please note this position requires periodic travel to facilities within Nova Scotia. A valid driver\'s license and access to transportation is required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Master\'s degree in Nursing, Education or other related discipline required (consideration will be given to applicants with Master degree in another discipline who possess the necessary clinical experience/competencies and those enrolled in a Master degree)
  • Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • Active practicing license with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required
  • Certificate course or CNA certification in Medical/Surgical Nursing required
  • Certificate course in adult education and/or leadership development education or equivalency required
  • Minimum two (2) years\' full time nursing experience within the last 5 years in Medical/Surgical Nursing required
  • Current experience with program and curriculum design and revision of classroom, skill/simulation and on-line teaching; and practical assessment methods required
  • Previous preceptor experience required
  • BLS-HCP certification required
  • Demonstrated recent professional development relevant to maintaining currency in practice and education
  • Demonstrated ability to apply learning and educational theories in program design; curriculum development; instructional and delivery methods; and assessment strategies required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with interprofessional groups of learners in a variety of educational settings (e.g. classroom, lab, and online)
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with key partners
  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with computer skills & applications including Complete Microsoft Suite, internet browsers, Learning Management Systems, Web-based classroom & discussion boards
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset

Salary Information

$45.84 - $52.84 hourly
$89,388 - $103,044 annually
$54.69 hourly ($106,650 annually) with 25 years\' nursing experience.
