About the role:




The Nurse Educator provides leadership, education, and clinical expertise in the support, orientation and competency based skills development of hospital staff. The Nurse Educator works collaboratively with the inter-professional program team in implementing evidence-based practices to achieve program objectives, in particular, in the development of clinical pathways or protocols. The Nurse Educator models clinical excellence and all core competencies. They will work to advance professional nursing practice and the practice of other professions as appropriate through leadership, learning and development, integration of research, education and best practice, critical thinking inquiry and analysis.

What you'll be doing:



The Critical Care/Corporate Nurse Educator will provide support and guidance for C ritical C are Education Program course . The Critical Care/Corporate Nurse Educator will liaise with level III Critical Care Nurse Educators (CVICU, CICU, and ICU) as well as level II critical care Nurse Educators (SACU, PCI) to achieve program goals and collaborate on deliverables . There may also be a need to liase with other department or unit Nurse Educators where it relates to critical care standards, updates, etc. Develops, implements and evaluates ongoing educational programs for staff and plans appropriate program delivery Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical pathways and patient care guidelines as it relates to the episodes of care within the clinical area Assesses learning needs of staff and supports them to meet lear ning goals Develops, implements and evaluates evidence based practice activities and educational information for clinical staff . Monitors nursing and health care trends/issues and collaborates to integrate relevant information into education activities an d responsibilities . Plans, implements and evaluates evidence based outcome oriented changes in clinical practices and care delivery processes. These changes will evolve from the continuous improvement and work redesign initiatives and the restructuring of practice and services . Co-ordinates, implements and evaluates content and process of patient teaching programs as they relate to the clinical area Participates with other educators and professional practice facilitators in development and delivery of corporat e clinical educational programs The Critical Care/Corporate Nurse Educator will perform other corporate duties as assigned such as, but not limited to, the following: Supporting the facilitation and instruction of the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course, Coronary Care 1 (CC1) and Coronary Care 2 (CC2) courses and refresher courses, initial certification and recertification of critical care competencies, medical directives and delegated acts as well as conducting mock codes and providing additional resources for central venous access devic e (CVAD). Provide oversite of revenue generating opportunities such as registration for a variety of education initiatives including, but not limited to the following: DETECT the Deteriorating Patient Workshop, Critical Care review courses as well as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Provide leadership and support for the Simulation and ACLS committees Provide a framework to support and advance Inter-professional and Professional Practice.

What you bring:



+ Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario + Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
+ Minimum 5 years recent and relevant critical care (level 3) experience required .
+ Charge Nurse experience preferred
+ Successful completion of Critical Care certificate required
+ Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification required
+ ACLS Instructors Certification preferred
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
+ Certificate in Adult Education principles or one to two years adult delivering adult training required
+ Best Practice Spotlight Organization Champion designation or willingness to pursue within one month of hire date required
+ Canadian Nurses Association certification (CNA) in related field or willingness to pursue within one year of hire date required
+ Current/ previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator in a health care organization preferred
+ Masters in a healthcare related field preferred
+ Completion of Patient Centered Care course or equivalent preferred
+ Current RNAO membership preferred
