Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the Renal-Haemodialysis Unit as a Nurse Clinician. Apply today to join our team!

As a Nurse Clinician/CRN with VCH you will:

  • Work as part of a provincial emergency response team responsible for providing provincial hemodialysis care in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.
  • HEST may only provide provincial support once or twice a year. The HEST team is a professional group under the guidance of the BC Renal Administrators committee. The HEST team will be assembled to address the immediate hemodialysis emergency. When the crisis has ended, the team will return to their normal operating systems within their health authority.
  • HEST provide leadership in the delivery of care activities in providing hemodialysis and renal care clinical expertise, utilizing an evidence informed, patient centered and culturally safe approach.
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance and support to team members.
  • Act as a clinical resource for nurses, nursing students and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assist staff in providing quality care and related quality assurance requirements for people living with kidney disease, by providing information based on theory/practice, assessing clinical/technical skills and participating in the direct patient care as appropriate, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two (2) years of recent related clinical experience in the hemodialysis clinical area.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in emergency situations in order to deliver quality patient care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing and hemodialysis theory, and practice within a patient/family centred care model.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Nephrology care and practise.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex situations.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform advanced cannulation including the use of portable ultrasound to support cannulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complicated vascular access issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader, facilitator, mentor and preceptor.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and coach.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, with new staff, other members of the interdisciplinary team, patient and families, either one-on-one and in-groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide feedback and promote a creative learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, collaborate, and consult with others in an effective and respectful way.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practice policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment and in techniques appropriate to hemodialysis nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated computer skill, including familiarity with PROMIS, the BC Renal clinical information system for kidney and transplant patients.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques
  • General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
