The
Northern Stars Leader
position is a casual role during regular school days, with the possibility of working full days during school breaks and Professional Development (PD) days. Leaders work under the direction of the
Northern Stars Program Coordinator
and assist with planning, coordinating, and delivering daily programming. Activities are designed to build life skills, encourage teamwork, and support personal growth through a variety of experiences, including
on-the-land learning, team-building games, arts and crafts, and other structured recreational activities.
Duties
Follow the daily programming set by the Program Coordinator.
Remind all kids to wash hands regularly throughout the day.
Actively engage with children at all times by maintaining an open, supportive, and communicative approach.
Personal mobile phones must not be used while on duty.
Children must be under constant supervision at all times.
Activities should be conducted with professionalism, enthusiasm, and energy.
Respect all equipment and facilities, and ensure proper care, use, and maintenance of them.
Prepare/set-up/ supervise /take part in a variety of children's games activities (e.g., arts & crafts, games, storytelling, and cultural or recreational programs).
Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all children.
Able to work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator and other team members.
Flexibility and problem-solving skills to adapt to the needs of children and the program.
Ensure all spaces are cleaned and sanitized at the end of each day.
Read through the Handbook to follow other rules and regulations.
Qualifications
Must be extremely punctual and reliable.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong organizational skills.
Experience working with children and youth with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, a trauma background, and various behavioral needs.
Enthusiasm and desire to work with children and youth and make a positive impact on their life.
Physically able to participate in activities with children (e.g., lifting up to 30 lbs, standing, outdoor play).
Knowledge of northern First Nations, Inuit, and Metis cultures
Requires a Vulnerable Sector Check (within last 6 months)
