Job Description

The Department of English Studies and Fine Arts in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University invites applications for a 5-month Limited Term Appointment. This faculty position will be at the Assistant Professor rank and will start January 2, 2026. This position is located in North Bay, Ontario.

Students in English Studies learn from the past by reading classic works of literature, such as novels, plays and poetry. They also engage with the contemporary culture by considering the texts that shape our lives, such as movies, television, web-culture, graphic novels, theatre, and other media forms. Through analytical reading, research and writing practice, students learn the skills of discernment, focus, resilience and adaptability that they will need to build their own careers and communities.

The ideal candidate will have:

A completed PhD in English Evidence of research activity in English Studies Demonstrated excellence or promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching
The candidate should be prepared to teach a range of in-person courses at the undergraduate level that will include:

ENGL-1007 WI001 Topics in Literature: Topic TBA ENGL-2116 WI001 Texts and Intertexts: Topic TBA ENGL-3036 WI001 Topics in Media Studies
The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Collective Agreement. The salary for a 5-month Assistant Professor position will be prorated from an annual range of $85,372 to $130,606 CAD.
