Nights - 8 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Durham Mental Health Services

Wage Schedule: $17.200 - $18.310 per hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



The Night Support Asleep position provides support to the program during overnight shift, ensuring the safety and security of the clients through the night.


This is a sleep position - this role has the ability to sleep from 1:00am-6:00am if the location and clients are settled. When support is needed for client care or needs of the location during shift, the staff will be awake.




complete thorough safety check on premises at the start of each shift and thereafter as necessary to ensure safety/security of clients, and the house supervise the house during night shift to ensure safety and comfort of clients read previous entries in staff and client logs - record all relevant information and activity for staff on up-coming shift respond effectively and efficiently to any emergencies that occur during shift provide clients with supportive listening as needed - encourage problem-solving, conflict resolution, and other applicable life skills advance pre-work for next-days meals Ensure cleanliness of shared areas (kitchen and washrooms) maintain/complete all necessary client documentation and reports facilitate morning meal and activities - make wake-up calls as requested by clients report (in writing) all accidents, incidents, injuries work co-operatively as a member of the program provide back up support to other locations if the need arises


QUALIFICATIONS:



Completion of high school diploma enrolled in Diploma or Degree from Accredited College or University in the human services field Related work experience or volunteering in the human services field is an asset. Valid Food Handler Certificate (certificate can be obtained in a 1-day course and must be provided upon hire) Up-to-date First Aid certificate Basic knowledge of the major mental illnesses, and an understanding of the Mental Health Act, confidentiality, and the principles of client centered service delivery. Basic knowledge of the principles of life skills training, focused problem solving and intervention strategies. Demonstrated reliability (attendance and punctuality), communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member. Must demonstrate a strong professional manner in dealing with clients, staff, families, and the public while being open, friendly, approachable, accepting and understanding. Strong attention to detail and confidentiality. Ability to work well under pressure. Must possess well-developed client boundaries, communication, organizational, time management and coordination skills. Functional knowledge of crisis intervention and assessment techniques required. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:



The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.



Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
