Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, performs surveillance duties in University buildings and grounds in order to ensure protection against fire, theft, vandalism, or any other damage. Responds to emergency calls.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Makes rounds and inspects assigned locations and grounds reporting in by 2-way radio and/or registering on a time clock as necessary. When encountering occupants outside normal hours, verifies their identity, destination, asks for proof of authorization, ensures their registration and expels intruders. Verifies that the doors and windows of premises are locked according to established schedule. Is responsible for surveillance related to crime prevention (such as thefts, break-ins, vandalism, etc. ) by immediately contacting McGill security and/or the police. Responds to emergency calls requiring immediate intervention. Verifies the closure of gas valves and all other machinery or equipment that should not be in operation at the time of verification. Reports any unusual or urgent situation, and/or takes appropriate measures to remedy the situation. In the case of emergency, will or may be called upon to assist with the evacuation of staff , students and clients during a fire alarm and direct occupants to the exits. Performs first aid procedures if necessary. Provides information to visitors, answers the telephone, and transmits messages. Completes simple reports. Verifies the condition of fire prevention equipment and alarm systems and vehicles used to make the rounds. On occasion, clears building entrance and spreads materials to prevent slipping. May be called upon to intervene in the event of water damage. Attends courses on security, prevention, first aid and participates in training exercises.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
First aid certificate required. Virtual Fire Prevention training session will be scheduled. Must be service oriented and able to maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times. Must have a valid Security Certification. Ability to work as part of a team. Able to remain calm in emergency situations and to solve problems in area of responsibility. Must be able to work closely with the Res Life Team. Oversees the well-being of students within Residences and intervenes whenever necessary. Makes rounds and inspects assigned locations and grounds reporting in by 2-way radio. Verifies identity, destinations and proof of authorization when encountering occupants outside normal hours. Responsible for surveillance related to crime prevention by immediately contacting McGill Security and or police. Verifies condition of fire prevention equipment, alarm systems, gas valves, machineries or other equipment\xe2\x80\x99s accordingly. You can be assigned to any buildings within SHHS. Reports any unusual or urgent situations. Excellent interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
Additional Information:
Overnight position. Contract 1 year. Work Schedule Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9pm to 5am (may be subject to change).
Minimum Education and Experience: High School Diploma 6 Months Related Experience /
Hourly Salary: (MUNACA Level B) $23.31 - $28.88
