Night Security Officer
Permanent, Full-Time, Year-Round Position

Reporting to the Head of Facilities, this position is responsible for the overall security of the grounds and for instilling a strong sense of safety within the school. The successful candidate has strong communication and interpersonal skills, is adaptable, focused and extremely dependable. Additionally, the candidate works well under pressure, follows through on security protocols and best practices and instills a strong sense of safety at all times. This position is best suited for individuals who are comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. The hours of work are weekdays from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. year-round. This position may need to work extended hours or do some weekend work during emergency situations. Key Responsibilities include: \xe2\x97\x8f Patrolling the premises to detect and prevent signs of unauthorized entry, as well as ensuring security of doors, windows and gates at all times. \xe2\x97\x8f Answering alarms and investigating disturbances while on regular duty. \xe2\x97\x8f Calling the police or fire department in cases of emergency such as a school fire or identification of unauthorized persons on the premises. \xe2\x97\x8f Keeping logs and records of irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. \xe2\x97\x8f During winter months, calling Head of Facilities in case of heavy snowfall or ice so that on-call groundskeepers can be called in. \xe2\x97\x8f During position downtime, may be required to perform minor building maintenance or custodial duties as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Experience: \xe2\x97\x8f Secondary School Diploma required. \xe2\x97\x8f A minimum of 2-3 years experience as a Security Officer or in a related field. \xe2\x97\x8f Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license. \xe2\x97\x8f W.H.M.I.S. Certification and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is considered an asset. \xe2\x97\x8f Must be adaptable, focused, dependable and have strong attention to detail in all areas of work. \xe2\x97\x8f Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. \xe2\x97\x8f Able to complete required paperwork to report abnormalities or incidents. \xe2\x97\x8f Comfortable working independently and in emergency situations. \xe2\x97\x8f Able to work well under pressure and able to follow through on security protocols and best practices at all times. \xe2\x97\x8f Computer literacy, including knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Gmail required.
